OREANDA-NEWS. On May 24, 2007 Yakunin announced this Sochi at the 2nd International Business Forum “Strategic Partnership 1520”, reported the press-centre of  Russian Railways.

“In the last five years we have achieved major progress in developing cooperation between Russian Railways and the railways of North and South Korea. The position of the Company on linking the Trans-Korean Main Line with the Trans-Siberian is supported by President Putin and the governments of North and South Korea. We are now agreeing the date to hold the first official meeting of the railway officials after a long gap. I think it will take place in October-November this year,” said Yakunin.

Yakunin also said that Russian Railways will begin modernising the section between Khasan and Radjin immediately after receiving the modernisation plans from its North Korean partners.

“We are ready to begin work on the line immediately after the design has been agreed. The upper part of the line is already ready, as is the necessary technology and the people,” said Yakunin.
