OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2007. A new water storage reservoir is built in the lowland of Archabil resort locality. The hydraulic facility has been built within ten months – 11 months ahead of the project schedule, reported the Presidential website www.turkmenistan.gov.tm.

During this time the contractor –Ruhabatgurlushyk specialized construction company affiliated with the Turkmenneftgazstroy concern built an artificial bowl of 340,000 cubic meter capacity, a dam, a mudflow pass channel, water intake and discharge facilities, laid out a park with footpaths and standard lamps, fountains and minor architectural units.

It is the second artificial lake built in Archabil by Ruhabatgurlushik company. In the project construction Turkmen builders applied the well-proved waterproofing technologies designed by Turkmengiprovodhoz Institute in cooperation with Polyfelt company (Austria), which offered to use impervious geomembrane film for this purpose.

The builders covered the reservoir bowl with three-layers - two protective layers made of a new protective material – geotextile and one layer of waterproof geomembrane film. Hydraulic insulating materials’ cost made US$ 1,320,000.

Water will be supplied to the hydraulic facility from Archabil mountain river and used for domestic and drinking needs and for watering green plantations. It will enable to more efficiently use underground fresh water resources and to control the negative impact of annual mudflows from Archabil gorge to the submontane valley.

The need in construction of artificial water storage reservoirs emerged in connection with intensive construction in Archabil resort-town. The newly-constructed reservoirs of ecologically pure water will be the main water supply source for new settlers of Archabil.
