OREANDA-NEWS. On May 29-30, 2007 a meeting of the Supervisory Committee of the Russia-European Community Nuclear Safety Cooperation Program took place. The Russian delegation comprised representatives of Rosatom, Rosenergoatom, Rostekhnadzor and other departments, reported the press-centre of  Rosenergoatom.

The conferees discussed the results of the TACIS nuclear safety program, a series of projects aimed at enhancing the safety and durability of NPPS and training highly-qualified personnel.

Special attention was given the problem of civil liability for nuclear damage.

The next meeting of the Committee will take place in Russia in 2008.

The TACIS program of the European Commission is aimed at enhancing the safety of Rosenergoatom’s NPPs and a number of Rosatom’s facilities. The program was carried out from 1991 till 2006: a total of 222 projects worth a total of 161mln EUR were implemented during that period. 50 projects worth a total of 85mln EUR are still underway and will be completed within the next three years. Presently, Rosenergoatom and the EC cooperate on the basis of partnership.
