OREANDA-NEWS. June 8, 2007. Valery Okulov, General Director of JSC “Aeroflot – Russian Airlines”, was for the fifth time elected the member of the Board of Governors for 2007-2008. 

The elections were held at the 63rd general conference of IATA arranged in Vancouver, Canada.

The IATA Board of Governors – is a permanent body reporting to the Annual general conference. Member of the Board, including 31 persons, are elected from 243 directors of the largest world airline companies – actual members of the association. Responsibilities of the Board include action on behalf and in interests of the Association, work in close cooperation with IATA General Director, ensuring political orders and management of permanent committees and auxiliary bodies of the Association as well as political management of conferences. Some members of the Board can consult on certain matters; their services are used in general interests of the Association.

IATA (International Air Transport Association) was established in 1945. The headquarters is in Montreal. Uniting leading world air carriers the Association acts as a coordinator and representative of interests of air industry in such spheres as ensuring flights safety, flights implementation, fare policy, technical support, air safety, develops and publishes international standards, arranges trainings, renders consulting services etc.

Aeroflot has been the actual member of IATA since 1989; it is represented in the Board of Governors and eight main Association committees.
