OREANDA-NEWS. On June 05, 2007 the conference “Reform of RAO UES: Developing the Russian Electrical Goods Sector” began in Moscow, reported the press-centre of  Russian Railways.

Russian Railways is a major consumer of electrical products. The Company’s railway substations generate 46 billion kilowatt hours of electricity for its own requirements every year, which amounts to 4,7% of Russia’s total annual electricity generation.

Valentine Gapanovich, head engineer at Russian Railways, represented the Company at the conference.

Gapanovich said that “Russian Railways has allocated funds to conduct scientific and research work on electrical goods, but that the money is insufficient. Russian Railways has to work out a programme between different institutions to develop new types of electrical goods for the transport machine building sector and Russian Railways with the support of the Minister of Industry and Energy.”

It was also necessary to set up working group between Russian Railways and RAO UES to coordinate development work on the new technology, said Gapanovich.
