OREANDA-NEWS. A delegation of railwaymen from Iran visited Moscow Railways during the 70th Session of the General Assembly of International Union of Railways (Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer - UIC) being held this week in Moscow.

The Iranians plan to build new lines and reconstruct existing ones and are interested in modern signalling, centralisation and blocking systems. They also wish to undertake major track repairs and electrify lines.

During their visit, they also paid particular attention to the Russian Glonas satellite system now being tested on Moscow Railways to monitor and manage freight trains.

The Iranian delegation noted the substantive content of the negotiations on bilateral cooperation, which have been underway since 2004 and confirmed the signing of a memorandum with Russian Railways.
