OREANDA-NEWS. On June 15, 2007 a full-scale simulator of the 3rd unit of Kalinin NPP was accepted for operation at the plant’s training center, reported the press-centre of Rosenergoatom.

Initially, the simulator was supposed to be launched before the commissioning of the 3rd unit, but now that significant changes have been made in the 3rd unit project the simulator will be modernized. The simulator has been designed by VNIIAES, who jointly with ENIKO TSO (MEPHI), has reconstructed the simulator hall, installed auxiliary communication, video surveillance and projection systems.

The personnel of the reactor and turbine departments have already tested the simulator. “The simulator offers situations that we may never face in real life, but it is very important for young specialists: it helps them to improve their skills in launching, operating and stopping the reactor,” says the head of the reactor department Yuri Schelik.

The head of the Simulator Group of the Operating Personnel Training Department Sergey Pychakov says that they are shortly going to modernize the simulators of the 1st and 2nd units. “The units are being constantly improved and their simulators must keep pace with them.”
