OREANDA-NEWS. On June 12, 2007 ,,Saba” award 5th anniversary ceremony took place at TBC Bank’s head office, reported the press-centre of TBC Bank.

A competent jury comprising of 7 persons revealed the best works and authors of the last year:

The best novel of the year – Lasha Bugadze,  ,,While the Hero Was Sleeping”;

The best prosaic work of the year - Lasha Imedashvili, ,,Three Murders in Old Tbilisi”;

The best collection of poems of the year – Shota Iatashvili, ,,Time Presses”;

The best translation of the year – Bachana Bregvadze, ,,New Translations”;

The best debut of the year – Keti Kantaria, DBC Pierre ,,Vernon Genius Little”;

The best literary critic of the year – Malkhaz Kharbedia, ,,Private Library”;

Award for special contribution to development of Georgian literature – Tamaz Chkhenkeli.

Annual literary award “Saba” was established in 2003. The founders of the event are: TBC Bank, The Writers’ Association “Georgian Pen-Club” and the broadcasting company “Rustavi 2”. The satisfactory award evaluates literary process of the previous year and reveals the best works.

For the first time, no one was awarded in the best play nomination – according to the Jury members the art level of plays wasn’t sufficient.

Apart from special prizes, the winners receive monetary awards – in the amount of 4 thousand GEL in the first 6 nominations and 8 thousand GEL in the nomination “for the special contribution to development of Georgian literature”.
