OREANDA-NEWS. June 20, 2007. ROSNO experts are worried about the increasingly frequent deaths and injuries of children at the foreign holiday resorts. From the beginning of this summer season, already four children have drowned. According to the company’s statistics, throughout the entire year 2006, 12 children drowned at foreign holiday resorts, and about 15,000 children turned for medical treatment with sickness and injuries of various degrees, reported the press-centre of ROSNO.

Unfortunately, all attempts to save lives of two of the four children aged 6 to 7 drowned in June 2007 were unsuccessful. Their bodies were repatriated from Turkey and Egypt, whereby ROSNO provided administrative support.

One child, saved after staying under water, was repatriated to Moscow in critical condition on completion of the seven-day hospital treatment in two medical institutions. IC ROSNO has done all its best to arrange treatment and extremely difficult repatriation within the insurance amount (15,000 USD), so that the child’s parents incurred no additional expenses. Russian medics as well did not leave this boy in the lurch. He was admitted for treatment to the Roshal Centre, which assumed all treatment-related expenses. The second saved child was also repatriated, in satisfactory condition.

"Our experience in arranging medical aid to Russian tourists abroad proves that the majority of child victims get in danger at the moment when their parents are absent or have lost vigilance due to any reason. This is why we urge parents to exercise continuous control over their children at holiday resorts. Being in unfamiliar places, children have many temptations, which often lead to tragedy. It is no question that in the critical situation, should such arise, medics and insurers strive to do everything they can to save lives, but nobody is in position to return lost health to such child", comments Ms. Svetlana Schwab, Deputy Director of ROSNO’s Medical Insurance Department.

"We would like to recommend parents to pay maximum attention to their children during holidays. Practice and common sense prove that in case of correct organization and under vigilant surveillance of adults, children receive a bulk of positive emotions when travelling abroad. However, to our deepest regret, parents lose vigilance, and their children get into various emergency situations, sometimes resulting in extremely deplorable consequences. Certainly, adults also have the right to relax during holidays. But if so, it is possible, and even necessary, for the parents to order professional care for their children — for example, children’s club by the hotel, special children’s animation groups, or just a babysitter. Doing this is not difficult, and, as a result, adults will be guaranteed against any tragic incidents, and their children will be healthy and happy", notes Mr. Roman Rybakov, PR Director of TEZ TOUR.
