OREANDA-NEWS. July 6, 2007. Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproject has won a tender for selection of the general contract for completing the construction and putting into commercial services the launch complex of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP. Shortly, Rosatom and Atomenergoproject will conclude a relevant contract.

On July 3–4 the director general of Atomenergoproject Valery Limarenko visited Kalnin NPP.

Limarenko met with the management of the plant and contractor organizations, inspected the site of the 4th unit: “We have visited the constructed and existing units, the concrete and reinforced concrete factories, assessed the readiness of the motor transport base. Our conclusion is that the site is ready for the construction.”

Limarenko also met with representatives of the construction organizations involved in the project. The sides discussed problems concerning organization, industrial and human resources, living conditions.

The construction of the 3rd and 4th units of Kalinin NPP was launched in 1984. In 1991 the Atomic Energy and Industry Ministry decreed to stop the construction of the 4th unit, which was 20% ready by that time. Oct 22, 2002, the Atomic Energy Minister of the Russian Federation and the Governor of Tver region signed a Declaration on Intentions to Resume the Construction of the 4th Unit of Kalinin NPP. Jan 28, 2005, the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy approved the outline of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP. Feb 16, 2006, the deputy head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy I.Kamenskikh, decreed to complete the construction of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP. June 4, 2006, the Administration of Tver region and the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy signed a relevant agreement.

The construction of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP will be resumed in 2007. The launch is scheduled for 2011.
