OREANDA-NEWS. July 9, 2007. Kolomensky Zavod (KZ, a CJSC Transmashholding member) presented a sophisticated design for the Russian Navy designated DDA12000 at the MVMS-2007 exhibition. The diesel-diesel unit was demonstrated as a part of Steregushy (Guard) new-generation Russian leader corvette (guard multipurpose ship of short-range maritime zone, project 20380, according to the official classifier).

The two DDA12000 Kolomensk units were used as the basis for the propulsion unit operating as the ship main power plant. Each of the units is made of two 16D49 diesels and a reverse and reduction unit connected through elastic springs. The unit specific feature is high power generated on reverse modes. The power is three times as high as that of a common locomotive diesel, whereas fuel and oil are efficiently used. The unit is fitted with an up-to-date microprocessor control and main operation parameters monitoring system.

The DDA12000 was designed by the ALMAZ Shipbuilding Company order to successfully pass interdepartmental tests in 2006. ALMAZ is the Russian leading combat vessels’ designer.

At present, Steregushy is being tested. As was earlier reported in the press, all four Russian fleets need ships of the type.
