OREANDA-NEWS. On July 03, 2007 Rosenergoatom Concern and Excelon Nuclear Corporation have agreed to jointly study their emergency planning and preparedness systems and methodologies and priorities in developing emergency management policies as well as to carry out joint measures for effective decision-making, reported the press-centre of Rosenergoatom.

Rosenergoatom and Excelon Nuclear have also agreed on mutual participation in emergency response exercises. The US side has already been invited to take part in the Sept 2007 exercises at Leningrad NPP.

Excelon Nuclear operates 10 NPPs with 17 reactors producing almost 20% of the US’s electricity. The corporation employs 6,900 people. It is the first US NPP operator Rosenergoatom is starting cooperation with. Formerly, the Concern has cooperated mostly with the US Department of Energy under projects for enhancing the safety of Soviet-design reactors.
