OREANDA-NEWS. On July 10, 2007 Izhorskiye Zavody OJSC, a part of OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group) (RTS: OMZZ; LSE: OMZD; OTC: UHMVY), announced that it has successfully passed an audit conducted by Atomstroiexport CJSC, Russia’s leader in the construction and modernization of nuclear power plants for the international market, reported the press-centre of OMZ.

The audit was aimed at ensuring compliance by Izhorskiye Zavody’s quality management system with Atomstroiexport’s requirements for the provision of equipment for the Belene Nuclear Power Plant (Bulgaria) and also at the system’s correspondence with ISO 9001-2000.

Atomstroiexport has signed a preliminary contract for the production of equipment for two power units for water-moderated reactors at Belene NPP. The first power unit is scheduled to be put into operation in 2011, the second in 2013. Among the advantages of the Bulgarian project are high safety levels, longer operating life (60 years) and conformity with European Union technological preferences.

The audit was intended to check Izhorskiye Zavody’s readiness for the production of equipment needed on the Belene NPP project. The audit was conducted 3-5 July. The auditors checked production documents and documentation related to quality issues such as planning and provision of production resources, technical preparation, testing and production management, etc. The audit revealed high levels of quality assurance in all production stages and compliance of the quality management system with Atomstroiexport’s requirements to Belene NPP equipment suppliers. Success in the audit by Izhorskiye Zavody is a guarantee of its observance of quality standards during the production process.
