Nizhny Novgorod, July 2007.  In the first half of 2007 OJSC “VolgaTelecom” has provided access to Internet to 2 864 educational institutions of the Volga Federal district (VFD) within the frameworks of priority national project “Education” realization. It is scheduled to finish the connection of the majority of schools to Internet prior to the new school year start.  Thus, OJSC “VolgaTelecom” will provide Internet access to 8 439 educational institutions of the Volga Federal district.

The program of providing educational institutions with access to information resources is being realized within the frameworks of priority national project “Education” carried out by RF Ministry of education and science jointly with the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of the Russian Federation. In 2006-2007 52 940 educational institutions of the Russian Federation should be connected to Internet. The objective of the project is to provide the students from various regions with equal rights to access information-reference resources and educational programs, which will allow for providing quality and availability of education and so putting the education process to a new level.
 
The schools are connected to Internet within the frameworks of obligations performance under the contract concluded with “RTKomm” company to provide the services of arranging communication channels to educational institutions at the rate of at least 128 Kbps.
