OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2007. In July, Aizkraukles Banka contributed LVL 10,000 to restoration of the ceiling painting in the Duke’s library in Rundale Palace, reported the press-centre of Aizkraukles Banka.

The ceiling piece in the Duke’s library has passed special treatment for preservation, and the new contribution will make it possible to work on restoration of the painting. The plan is to complete its restoration in two years under the guidance of the restorer Zina Grinfelde.

"We are especially happy about this revival of the ceiling piece as its condition was poorest of all seven ceiling pictures restored in Rundale Palace over the last 35 years", emphasises Dr. Imants Lancmanis, director of Rundale Palace Museum.

Sponsoring the Palace restoration since 2004

The contributed amount is part of the annual payment under the program for support of Rundale Palace, one of the major monuments of baroque and rococo architecture and art in Latvia, which was started by Aizkraukles Banka in 2004. To date a total of LVL 36,000 was donated to restoration works in the Palace.

Olegs Fils, co-owner and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Aizkraukles Banka: "We will continue our co-operation with Rundale Palace Museum. We feel honoured and privileged in contributing to restoration of this cultural and historical symbol of Latvia. Aizkraukles Banka is happy that our support allows the Palace to resume its originality and beauty"!

Rundale Palace has been ranked among the most outstanding renovated cultural monuments in Latvia, and its restoration was based on enthusiasm and initiative of Dr. Imants Lancmanis, director of the Palace Museum, as well as on raising private funds.
