OREANDA-NEWS. July 30, 2007. Modern portable and mobile post offices were tested in Shumerlya, the Chuvash Republic on 24 July 2007.

Portable and mobile post offices are to render postal services in difficult-to-access and under-populated rural settlements where opening of constant post offices is non-productive.

New mobile and portable post offices are multi-service units that meet up-to-date requirements. They have counter operations terminals, telephone communications and Internet access channels. Such offices provide wide range of public services besides postal universal ones, for instance collection of utilities payment, money orders and long distance communications services.

The offices also have public Internet access outlets that let customers work with personal computer, get correspondence education and find job.

In the near future modern portable and mobile post offices will be tested in Russian Post branches in Archangelsk, Moscow and Pskov regions.

As planned, over 700 portable and over 300 mobile post offices will be implemented in 82 regions by 2010. It enables sufficient improving of service quality for people living in difficult-to-access and under-populated rural districts and their providing with modern postal, financial and infocommunication services.
