OREANDA-NEWS. On July 30, 2007 the branch of the Federal Network Company of the United Energy System, the Electric Networks of the North-West, has launched a new sub-station in the village of Zelenoborsky, Murmansk region, reported the press-centre of Kola NPP.

Kniazhegubskaya sub-station is the first sub-station built in the Polar region in the last 20 years. The facility is connected to Kola NPP, the key power generating company of Murmansk region, with a 79-km power transmission line. The chief engineer of Kola NPP Vasily Omelchuk says that this 330 KV sub-station will allow his plant to supply more electricity to Murmansk region and the Republic of Karelia.

A total of 2.5bln RUR was invested in the construction of the facility in 2004–2007. This is the first stage of the construction of the second chain of the so-called Northern Transit – one of the biggest projects in the country in the last years. A 500-km 330 KV line from Kola NPP (Murmansk NPP) to Onda WPP (the Republic of Karelia) will connect the power facilities of Kola and Karelian energy systems.

The first vice governor of Murmansk region Alexander Selin, the director general of the Electric Networks of the North-West Valrey Ageyev, the director general of the Dispatching Office of the North-West Vasily Omelchuk, representatives of the FNC UES and other power companies of Murmansk region attended the ceremony.
