OREANDA-NEWS. On August 01, 2007 OAO Granit-Kuznechnoye (a company of LSR Group) has opened a new transshipment facility at 99 Sofiyskaya Street in St. Petersburg with a capacity for loading up to 600,000 cub. m of gravel into trucks every year, reported the press-centre of  LSR Group.

The new facility is built in Frunzensky District of St. Petersburg and is intended, above all, to meet the needs of construction projects in the Southwest of the city. However the convenient location of the storage facility (near a junction of the Circular Motorway) makes is easily accessible for consumers from other parts of St. Petersburg too.

Granit-Kuznechnoye already has two transshipment sites in St. Petersburg, one of them situated downtown at 40 Oktyabrskaya Embankment and used to unload rail cars and river vessels, and the other one — in the northern part of the city in the Parnas Industrial Area. The commissioning of a third storage facility will enable the company to reach the whole of St. Petersburg minimizing the time needed to deliver gravel to any construction project in town. In this way the company intends to prevent incidental shortages of the building material that may occur not for lack of its plants capacity but rather due to difficulties with delivering gravel to the customers because of the remote location of its plants. The quantities currently kept in stock at the existing storage facilities of the company are sufficient to help its customers to have no gravel shortage even during the peak construction season.

The new facility is fitted with 18-meter two-platform vehicle scales of up to 100 ton capacity providing for accurate weighing of trucks of most high handling capacities which is extremely important today given the significant growth of the fleet of large-cargo trucks.
