OREANDA-NEWS. August 02, 2007. EU supported a series of summer workshops for Kazakh experts in the realms of industry and trade on the nation’s accession into the WTO, reported the Official website http://en.government.kz.

In the course of the workshops, the sides detailedly discussed major issues related to the nation’s accession to the WTO, notably related to agriculture, sanitary measures, financial sector, subsidies, and access to markets.

Reps of the Kazakh Center for Trade Policy Development under the Ministry of Industry and Trade were exposed to major WTO agreements, practices of settling international disputes, legal aspects of accession, regional agreements, and tariff policy.
 
Following the consultations round, the Kazakh experts met permanent representatives of international organizations in Geneva and with the group of observers monitoring the Kazakhstan’s accession.

 EU pursues the goal of rendering support to Kazakhstan in talks on accession and support to development of a mutually beneficial trade policy at the national and regional levels based on international standards and agreements. 

The summer workshops were sponsored by the Graduate Institute of International Studies within a EU project to support the agreement on partnership and cooperation between the EU and Kazkahstan.
