Brest oblast will receive extra Br 27 billion for reconstruction of the melioration system, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky declared during a visit to Ivatsevichi region of Brest oblast.The region was hit by flooding caused by heavy rains, reported the Official website http://www.government.by.

“When assessing the work on restoration of the melioration system created during the Soviet period in Polesye, one can say that we are on the right way. We can collect rich crop in these lands,” Sergei Sidorsky said.

According to him, the measures stipulated by the state programme on preservation and use of meliorated lands by 2010 are not enough. “The climate change urges us to intensify work. This year’s flooding of agricultural lands and private households in Polesye testifies to that,” the Prime Minister said.

Sergei Sidorsky reported that the Government was ready to consider the issue on allocating extra funds to the region. This year Brest oblast will receive Br 4 billion to mitigate consequences of the flooding. Local authorities were vested with the responsibility to help people overcome the disaster.
