OREANDA-NEWS. August 24, 2007. The committee was led by the vice chairman of the committee Andrey Sorocinhsky, reported the press-centre of Leningrad NPP.

During the visit Sorochinsky said that St.Petersburg is interested in the development of Leningrad NPP. In this light, special importance is given to Rosatom’s program aimed at building new WWER-1150 reactors and replacing the existing ones – the so-called LNPP-2 program.

Sorochinksy said that the authorities of St.Petersburg will consider this program when planning the city’s development.

Sorochinsky said that he cannot yet say if Leningrad NPP will be able to directly supply St.Petersburg with electricity now that the local authorities have bought a blocking stake in Lenenergo company (local energy company). “We have not considered such a possibility yet. But we are ready to discuss this problem with Rosenergoatom,” Sorochinsky said.

He explained: “Natural gas is dominant in St.Petersburg’s energy balance – as much as 90%. This is a real source of ecological and technological problems. So, we are very much interested in developing Leningrad NPP.”
