OREANDA-NEWS. On August 27, 2007 Sevmash Has Successfully Fulfilled of Guarantee Obligations on Export Diesel-Electrical Submarine Maintenance, reported the press-centre of Sevmash.

We’d like to remind you that the contract for building of two diesel-electrical submarines (project 636) designed in CDB MT “Rubin” (Saint-Petersburg) was signed with FSUE “Rosoboronexport” in 2003. The same year in May, submarines were keel-laid, and in summer 2005 submarines were taken out of shop. In autumn they successfully passed all test and on the eve of new 2006 acceptance documents were solemnly signed. In June diesel-electrical submarines were delivered to Customer by special-purpose transport ship. Except crews, Sevmash and Arktika representatives went to companion submarines. According to the contract the enterprise shall fulfil after-sales service during 14 months since the day of diesel-electrical submarine shipping. Last week 22 specialists from Severodvinsk returned to the town.

“On August 16th operating protocol was signed, - said Team Manager, Alexander Balandin. – We fulfilled guarantee obligations in the full scope. The enterprise has had some activities to be done: it is necessary to return to Customer spare parts, which we used from their store, but it is not reflected on general result. We just had not enough experience, because we maintained diesel-electrical submarines abroad for the first time. Now we know, which SPTA is required to take in customer’s country, what parts can stop working”. Specialist from “Admiraltyskiye Verfi” enterprise helped us very much; in gaining experience, simultaneously with Sevmash shipbuilders they maintained one diesel-electrical submarine (project 636), which was built in Saint-Petersburg. Workers of our enterprise managed to carry out this task. “We left serviceable ships: one has successfully passed tests of torpedo complex, the second one was sent for active service, – continued Aleksandr Balandin. – Customers were satisfied with our work, and during farewell they said it would be good if we were service group, because our specialists were valued as high class professionals”.

Diesel submarines had not been build at Sevmash since the beginning of 50-ties. All production facilities were directed to creating nuclear submarine fleet of our country. But when nuclear submarine building rate had sufficiently reduced according to objective reasons, there were commercial projects. Creation of new equipment for foreign customers takes special place. Firstly, for enterprise it is profile products, and secondly, it is wonderful possibility to show to the world, that Sevmash is ready to build and maintain export diesel-electrical submarines with good quality.
