OREANDA-NEWS. September 7, 2007. The main item on the agenda was the Company’s results during the first half of 2007 and setting the tasks which must be completed by the end of the year.

"In the first half of 2007, Russian Railways consolidated its leading position in Russia’s transportation system, accounting for 87.4% of the country’s total freight turnover (excluding commodities shipped by pipeline) and over 41% of passenger turnover. This was in spite of the fall in transport costs in the economy of over 4%,” said Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways.

In addition, the volume of transit traffic on Russia’s railways increased by 45.5% in the first half of 2007.

The positive trends in freight and passenger transportation mean that the final results for 2007 should be significantly higher than expected, with freight turnover exceeding the planned figure by 2.6% and long-distance passenger turnover by 2.8%.
