OREANDA-NEWS. A scientific-technical conference “High Technologies of the Nuclear Power Industry: Youth and Innovations” will take place in Nizhniy Novgorod on Sept 13–14, 2007

A scientific-technical conference of Rosatom young specialists entitled “High Technologies of the Nuclear Power Industry: Youth and Innovations” will be conducted in Nizhniy Novgorod on Sept 13-14, 2007 in the framework of the 12th International Scientific-Industrial Forum “United Russia.”The organizers are the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists and the administration of Y.Sedakov Research Institute of Measuring Systems (NIIIS, Nizhniy Novgorod), the press-center of NIIS reported.

The objective of the conference is to develop the technical potential of the young scientists working in the sector and strengthen ties among Rosatom’s leading companies.

Over 100 young scientists and specialists from NIIIS, Atomenergoproject (Nizhniy Novgorod), I.I.Afrikantov OKBM (Nizhniy Novgorod), All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (VNIIEF, Sarov), Ural Electro-Mechanical Plant (Yekaterinburg), Start PA (Zarechny, Penza region), Kurchatov Institute (Moscow) as well as representatives of the leading specialized universities will take part in the conference.

The deputy head of Rosatom’s Department for Designing and Testing of Nuclear Ammunition S.Vlasov will welcome the conferees. The NIIIS deputy chief designer of NPP automated control systems L.Zakharov, the OKBM chief designer of high-temperature gas reactors N.Kodochigov, the deputy rector of Nizhniy Novgorod State Technical University A.Loskutov will make reports.

At the conference will considered the following topics:

• design and production of radio-electronic equipment and systems;
• automated control systems and their components in the nuclear power industry and the fuel and energy complex;
• micro-electronics;
• information technologies;
• design and automation of technological processes.

The opening ceremony and the plenary session will take place at Nizhniy Novgorod Fair Center on Sept 13. On Sept 14 the conference will move to NIIIS. Some of the reports will be published.

Notes:

This is the third conference of its kind. The first one took place in Sept 2002 and was entitled “Prospects of Floating NPP.” Representatives of NIIIS, OKBM, NIAEP, the Central Office of the Atomic Energy Ministry, NSTU, the Nizhniy Novgorod authorities took part in the event. The conference was one of the first heralds of the emerging interest in low-capacity nuclear power engineering – today, one of the most promising directions of our nuclear power industry.

The second conference took place in 2006 on occasion of the 40th birthday of NIIIS. It was then that the organizers decided to conduct it every year.

Such events foster creativity among young nuclear power engineers and help us with our ambitious plans for reforming our nuclear power industry.
