OREANDA-NEWS. The 1st fuel assembly of Smolensk NPP was loaded 25 years ago on Sept 9, 1982, and controlled chain reaction started on Sept 10, 1982 at 10:50 AM, thereby setting the 1st unit at work, according to the Information and PR Center of the plant.

On Dec 25, 1982 a state committee accepted the 1st unit and Smolensk NPP joined the energy system of our country. Since then the unit has generated 151bln KWh.

Presently, SNPP has three units with a total capacity of 3mln KWh. In the past 25 years the plant has produced 414.660bln KWh. The radiation situation at the plant and in the nearby area has always been within norm, thereby positioning Smolensk NPP as an ecologically safe plant.
