OREANDA-NEWS. September 12, 2007. A supply of low-enriched nuclear fuel September 11 was delivered to the research reactor VVR-M of the Nuclear Research Center in Dalat (Vietnam). The supply was in frames of the Russian-American program for making research reactors capable of using low-enriched fuel (Reduced Enrichment for Research and Test Reactors, RERTR). The delivery was carried out under the contract No DE-AC52-07NA27485 of 14.03.2007 signed by JSC TVEL, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission. The new fuel where uranium-235 enrichment is below 20% will ensure more safe operation of the research reactor and reduce the terrorist threat.

This is not the first delivery of low-enriched nuclear fuel by JSC TVEL under this program. Before, such fuel in 2005 was supplied to the research reactor VR-1 Vrabec of the Czech Technical University in Prague (Иeskй vysokй uиenн technickй v Praze) and research reactor of the Tajoura Nuclear Research Centre) in Libya.

The nuclear fuel was fabricated by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant which is a constituent of TVEL Corporation.
