OREANDA-NEWS. A load of low-enriched nuclear fuel September 11 was delivered to the research reactor VVR-M of the Nuclear Research Center in Dalat (Vietnam). The supply lies within the framework of the Russian-American program for making research reactors capable of using low-enriched fuel (Reduced Enrichment for Research and Test Reactors, RERTR). The delivery was carried out under the contract No DE-AC52-07NA27485 of 14.03.2007 signed by JSC TVEL, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission. The new fuel where uranium-235 enrichment is below 20% will ensure more safe operation of the research reactor and reduce the terrorist threat.

This is not the first delivery of low-enriched nuclear fuel by JSC TVEL under this program. Before, such fuel in 2005 was supplied to the research reactor VR-1 Vrabec of the Czech Technical University in Prague and research reactor of the Tajoura Nuclear Research Centre in Libya.

The nuclear fuel was fabricated by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant which is a constituent of TVEL Corporation.
