OREANDA-NEWS. September 18, 2007. In January-August 2007, Yuzhny port (Ukraine) handled 14.842.7 million tonnes of cargo (+4.7%, year-on-year), the port’s press center reports. In the reported period, cargo handling totaled 10.271.3 million tonnes (+6.5%, year-on-year). In the 8-month period the port handled 857 vessels and 106,515 open-top wagons.

In August 2007, the port’s throughput amounted to 1.995.6 million tonnes (+19.9%, year-on-year).  Cargo handling grew by 28.9%, year-on-year, to 1.445.5  million tonnes. In August the port handled 130 vessels and 11,304 open-top wagons.

Yuzhny port is the largest and most deep-water port complex of Ukraine capable of handling 100,000-dwt vessels. The port specializes on transshipment of liquid chemicals, grain, coal and containers. There are berths for export shipment of bulk and general cargo. Major directions of transportation are the basins of the Black and Mediterranean Seas, Latin America, USA, Middle East, South-East Asia.
