OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2007. It is done by specialists from the refractory section of the shop of blast-furnaces repairs. And though such work is not at all new for the shop it is done according to a new technology.

As Oleg Radchenko, the foreman of the refractory section of the shop said, the main difference is in take over of the use of refractory bricks. Concreting and filling (laying plastic masses), these are corner-stones of the new technology. Ready-made materials, supplied in a by a French company are used for these purposes. Plastic masses become a monolith after agglomeration. Their use makes it possible to apply a thinner layer, their insulation characteristics being much superior. And just because heat losses are smaller, then in terms of specific fuel consumption per one ton of metal for rolling, this furnace is half more economic, in comparison with the existing ones.

“If promises of the French specialists are true, application of new refractory materials will make it possible to extend period between repairs of the furnaces to five years.,-Nickolay Teslya, senior foreman of the section of heating furnaces explained, naturally in case of correct exploitation and obligatory annual stoppage for 14 days. Time will show if theses promises are true.

For relining the French specialists, who control this work from “A” to “Z” asked three months.
“However, much will depend upon the weather”-explained Boris Gaponov, the chief of “1700” rolling mill, just because relining with new material can be made at temperatures not less than five degrees Centigrade.

We’d like to remind you that the continuous heating furnace is unique, there’s no another in our country. Its productivity is 350 mt. per hour. It is capable of heating any existing kind of metal in accordance with any existing process and at 10 degrees precision.
