OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2007. The visit was part of his tour of the Southern Federal District. Pulikovsky was accompanied by the inspector general of Rosenergoatom Erik Pozdyshev, the deputy director general of the concern Nikolay Sorokin, the vice governor of Rostov region Sergey Nazarov and the head of the Volgodonsk administration Viktor Firsov.

Special attention was given to the safety of the existing 1st unit and the quality of the construction of the 2nd unit. Pulikovsky met with the managers of the plant. The director of Volgodonsk NPP Alexander Palamarchuk reported on the safety situation at the 1st unit and the construction of the 2nd one. He pointed out that the plant’s work is constantly controlled by both Russian and international inspectors.

Pulikovsky said that safety is top priority for Rostekhhandzor and it should be the key concern of any NPP whether it operates existing or builds new units.

Pulikovsky was satisfied with the performance of the 1st unit of Volgodonsk NPP and the quality of the construction of the 2nd unit. The Rostekhnadzor inspectors working at the plant are highly professional and do their work effectively.

In Sept 2007 a Rostekhnadzor commission inspected Volgodonsk NPP to see if the plant complied with the nuclear, radiation and technological safety standards in operating its 1st unit and building the 2nd unit.

The commissioners were satisfied with what they had seen. They pointed out that Volgodonsk NPP repaired and maintained its equipment timely and effectively and complied with all federal rules and standards. “Volgodonsk NPP is highly safe plant,” the experts said.
