OREANDA-NEWS. On October 01, 2007 TVEL and Energoatom (Ukraine) organized a Day of Nuclear Power Industry in the framework of the 5th International Forum “Fuel and Power Complex of Ukraine: Present and Future”, reported the press-centre of TVEL.

The forum took place at International Exhibition Center, Kyiv.

The Day of Nuclear Power Industry was attended by scientists and public activists from Ukraine, Russia and other countries.

Particularly, TVEL and Energoatom conducted a roundtable on the present and the future of nuclear power engineering in Ukraine in the framework of that country’s Energy Strategy 2030. The deputy minister of fuel and energy of Ukraine Yuri Nedashkovsky, the president of Energoatom Andrey Derkach, the vice presidents of TVEL Vasily Konstantinov and Pyotr Lavrenuk, the vice chairman of the State Nuclear Control Committee of Ukraine Sergey Bozhko, representatives of Ukrainian and Russian power companies (Atomstroyexport and Atomredmetzoloto) made reports on the situation in the nuclear power industries of Ukraine and Russia.

One of the key topics was the prospects of cooperation between Ukrainian and Russian nuclear power companies, particularly, under joint uranium mining, machine building, NPP construction projects. All the rapporteurs pointed out that Ukraine and Russia enjoy strong partnership in the nuclear sphere.

The vice president of TVEL Pyotr Lavrenuk reported on the production of nuclear fuel for WWER-1000 reactors. He presented the new tendencies in the sphere and pointed out that the fuel is being constantly improved.

Energoatom is the power generating company of Ukraine operating all the local NPPs: Zaporizhia, Khmelnitsk, Rivno and South-Ukrainian plants. Ukraine is the 5th in the world as to the share of nuclear energy in total energy production (46,9% in 2006).

TVEL Corporation is one of the world leaders in nuclear fuel production. It supplies fuel to 17% of nuclear reactors in the world as well as to foreign research reactors and Russian ship reactors. 15 nuclear reactors in Ukraine work on the fuel produced by TVEL.
