OREANDA-NEWS. A project of building a slag processing unit has been prepared at the JSC “Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant” (part of the metallurgical holding of ESTAR Group). The investment value of the project will be over 40 mln RR with a payback period of 1.5 years.

The slag processing site appeared at the plant in 2006. At present only electric furnace steelmaking waste is processed (3.5 t per month). The capacity of new equipment is about 300.000 t of slag per year and it will allow processing both the accumulated waste of electric furnace and open-hearth steelmaking, including the slag from the New Zlatoust Electrometallurgical Plant (NZEMP). Up to 95% of metal will be extracted from the slag. It is planned to sell the by-products – refractories and three-fraction broken slag.

The project has passed environmental impact assessment. At the slag processing site there is an ongoing process of metalware installation and foundation laying, electricity supply has been arranged, and part of the equipment – a hydrohammer and a bulldozer - was purchased. The slag processing plant is to be put into operation in the autumn of 2008.
