OREANDA-NEWS. The railway transport shop of Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant has celebrated its 80th anniversary.

The ZMP railway transport shop was founded in 1927 and at that moment it was equipped with 4 locomotives, 150 cars and a crane with lifting capacity of 3 t. About 1200 employees worked in the new department, the majority were loaders.

Today the staff of the shop numbers 329 people who service 74 km of railways, 4 stations and 2 control cabins. The total area of the enterprise is over 200 hectares; the territory stretches along the river making it unfeasible to deliver cargo by trucks only along the enterprise site. The plant’s railway connects all ZMP shops: from the drop-hammer plant to the finished products shop.

All the locomotives are equipped with the “Navigator” system which makes it possible to get the information about the current location of locomotives and their speed in a real-time mode. At present the shop’s fleet consists of 16 locomotives, 12 dump cars and 19 cars with a right to enter the railways of the Ministry of Railway Transport of the Russian Federation. The rolling stock of the ZMP railway transport shop transports up to 5 mln t of metal per year (among them about 360,000 t of finished products).
