OREANDA-NEWS. October 15, 2007. Freight shipments via Ust-Luga should rise to 36 million tonnes per annum as a result of the 5.4 billion roubles Russian Railways is investing in reconstructing rail approaches to the sea port.

The platforms at Gatchina, Pustynka and Novolisino stations are being extended in 2007 and a 600-metre flying junction built at Mga station to link the Oktober Railways section to the east. The electrification of the section between Mga and Gatchina will increase the through capacity in that direction to 45 trains a day.

Total spending on the full reconstruction of the section between Mga, Gatchina, Weirman and Ivangorod up to 2010 is planned at around 35 billion roubles.
