OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2007. Chelyabinsk, Russia – October 25, 2007 – Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant (LSE: CHZN, RTS: CHZN), Russia’s largest producer of zinc and zinc alloys, is pleased to announce its production results for the nine months period of 2007.

January to September 2007, Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant (CZP) produced 122,676 tonnes of SHG zinc and zinc based alloys, an increase of 11.3% as compared to the same period of 2006 (110,178 tonnes). 48% of the plant output was supplied to the domestic market.

CZP’s subsidiary, Nova Zinc LLC, the operator of Akzhal zinc and lead ore mine in Kazakhstan, processed 965,548 tonnes of ore in January – September of 2007, 6.8% more than for the same period of 2006 (904,208 tonnes). The average zinc content in the ore for the nine months of 2007 was 2.62% with the average lead content of 0.49%, compared to 2.9% and 0.63% respectively a year ago. Production of zinc in zinc concentrate for the nine months of 2007 decreased 3.6% to 23,365 tonnes over the prior year result of the same period of 24,229 tonnes. Lead in lead concentrate production decreased by 17.1% to 3,867 tonnes (vs. 4,668 tonnes in January – September of 2006).

CZP’s subsidiary, The Brock Metal Company Limited (the leading UK supplier of zinc and aluminum die-casting alloys) sold 6,669 tonnes of products in July – September 2007, 14.5% less than for the same period of 2006 (7,777 tonnes).
