OREANDA-NEWS. On October 24, 2007 the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation V. Zubkov and Minister for Information Technologies and Communications of the Russian Federation L. Reiman visited exposition at VII International Forum-Exhibition "InfoCom – 2007" opened on 24th of October 2007 in Moscow. They visited Russian Post exposition stand and were informed of the enterprise new opportunities to grant people available high-quality communications services, reported the press-centre of Russian Post.

The guests were especially attracted by the presentation of the project Automated sorting center in Moscow region to be opened in the first half-year of 2008. The automated sorting center (ASC) model representing its exact miniature copy placed at the stand demonstrated architectural and design peculiarities of the sorting center and the main technological processes. FSUE Russian Post Acting Director General А. Konoval noted that modern ASC putting into operation helps to reduce postal items delivery time immensely.

The participants were particularly attracted by Public Access Outlets (PAO) demonstrated at Russian Post stand. L. Reiman noted the significance of the project on PAO installation as a measure to liquidate digital gap between citizens of large cities and rural settlements to provide modern IT-technologies. “Great moment is that PAO are set in post offices in remote and difficult-to-access regions. For the citizens of these towns it is the only way to get access to global network”, he noted.

V. Zubkov emphasized the importance of postal infrastructure aiming to development of territories. “We shouldn’t forget that for many countries and villages post offices are almost the only civilized centers”, noted the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
