OREANDA-NEWS. Volgograd Shipyard (MNP Group) launched dry-cargo ship project 006RSD05 built for Beaufort Shipping Ltd (Malta). The contract for construction of the vessel was signed by the Yard and Beaufort Shipping Ltd in August, 2006, MNP press center reports. This is the largest domestic sea-and-river-going dry-cargo vessel, designed for transportation of bulk, timber and grain cargoes as well as special-purpose standard containers and hazardous cargoes.

Basic characteristics of the vessel: dwt – 6,970 mt, length is 140 m, width – 16.5 m, depth – 6 m, capacity of cargo tanks is 11,400 cubic m, and speed is 10.5 knots, total number of berths – 14 (including 2 reserved berths). The unique feature of the vessels is two all-round rudder-propellers, which enable the ship to move in any direction and turn on her own length.

The project of dry-cargo ship was designed by Maritime Engineering Bureau (Odessa, Ukraine) for class КМ ЛУ1 1 II А1 of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and meets the requirements of worldwide Maritime conventions. The vessel is intended for year-round navigation in ice-free seas, in broken open ice (small floes) of non-arctic seas (running voyage in broken open ice (small floes) of 0.40 m thick at speed of 5 knots; following an icebreaker in an ice lane in the floe-ice of 0.35 m thick at speed of 3 knots).

In October, 2006, Volgograd Shipyard completed a series of seven dry-cargo vessels project 006RSD05 for Palmali Shipping. By the estimate of the British Royal Society of the naval architects dry-cargo ships project 006RSD05, built at the Yard for Palmali Company, are acknowledged the best among the vessels of this class.
