OREANDA-NEWS. The seminar was organized by Moscow Center of World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).

Nuclear power engineers from Russia, Italy, Bulgaria, Iran, Slovakia and Armenia attended the event.

The sides exchanged information on a wide range of problems concerning NPP safety and efficiency. The advisor of WANO MC N.Steklov said that “before taking measures to enhance the safety of nuclear power plants we need to exchange information. Such meetings show us how effective our measures are.”

The sides adopted a joint memorandum on NPP emergency preparedness rules. This document contains the best experience presented by reporters, general guidelines for ensuring NPP safety and for enhancing their preparedness for possible emergencies - the steps each NPP should take to enhance its safety.

“Such seminars are a good chance for different nuclear power plants to exchange experience on how to enhance their safety and emergency preparedness. We should involve not only NPPs but also research institutes so that they see what problems NPPs have and offer them their solutions and technologies,” the advisor of WANO MC S.Kezin said.

The past seminar has become a big contribution to the strengthening of the international cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy. And WANO is one of the frameworks of such cooperation.
