OREANDA-NEWS. In January-October 2007, throughput of Yuzhny port grew by 5.9%, year-on-year, to 18.2 million tonnes, the port’s press center reports. In the reported period, the port handled 12.590 million tonnes of cargo (+9%, year-on-year). In the 10-month period the port handled 1,106 vessels and 126,866 open-top wagons.

Yuzhny port is the largest and most deep-water port complex of Ukraine capable of handling 100,000-dwt vessels. The port specializes on transshipment of liquid chemicals, grain, coal and containers. There are berths for export shipment of bulk and general cargo. Major directions of transportation are the basins of the Black and Mediterranean Seas, Latin America, USA, Middle East, South-East Asia.
