OREANDA-NEWS. On November 12, 2007 the specialists of Ministry of Economic Affairs, Technological and Ecological Supervision Department of RosTekhNadzor and Natural Resources Management Department in Kaliningrad region inspected the Neman Pulp and Paper Mill and confirmed that the company had completed all the arrangements to reduce the negative impact on the environment which are stipulated by the Perspective Plan up to 2010, reported the press-centre of Neman Pulp.

So the Mill has managed to make it 3 years earlier than it was planned. The pollution of the Neman river and the atmosphere is reduced significantly.

The government of Kaliningrad region with the Chairman Mr. Vladimir Kuzin, Acting Minister of Economic Affairs, has mentioned all the prescriptions since October 2002 which were fulfilled by the Mill. Due to the new TCF-bleaching Pulp Plant brought on stream in summer 2007, the Mill has reached the level of the waste water pollution which is unique for Russia. Currently the content of harmful components is reduced by 7,7 ton a day. At the same time the waste water consumption is also reduced by 3600 m3 a day. So the Neman Pulp and Paper Mill discharges are now maximum close to HELCOM requirements.

With switching the Mill to gas and rebuilding the bark boiler there were excluded oil ash discharges and reduced CO, NO and carbon discharges. Now the level of discharges corresponds to Kyoto Protocol and Convention on Transboundary Atmosphere Pollution ECE UN.

The NWTC’s work on the environmentally friendly technologies introduction has been highly appreciated by WWF as well as by Russian government, Greenpeace and authorities of Lithuania which suffered the most from the plant polluting the environment.

The means of the Mill directed to the environmental projects introduction will be considered as the payments for the environment pollution as it is stipulated by the Government Regulation of the Russian Federation. The environment payments of the Mill have been corrected by the government of Kaliningrad region since 2004 as the Mill always performed different projects directed to the negative impact reducing such as close water circulation system, evaporator and new production lines installation.
