OREANDA-NEWS. On November 12, 2007 failures in power supply to socially significant units of Smolensk region were not discovered as JSC “Smolenskenergo” Grid Maintenance Center informed, reported the press-centre of JSC IDGC of the Center.

At the moment, all high voltage power lines and 35-110 kV substations, excluding three HVL, which are under reconstruction (power to the connected consumers is supplied through reserve schemes) are operating in a normal mode. Less than 1%  of 6-10 kV transformer substations are  cut off in the JSC “Smolenskenergo” distribution grid.

As previously stated, the storm warning was announced in Smolensk region on November 11 due to a negative meteorological situation.

A round-the-clock emergency management center was set up in JSC “Smolenskenergo” under the auspices of JSC “IDGC of the Center” specialists.

In spite of the falling snow (in some districts the snow was 40 cm depth), there were no snow drifts and slush build-up, and outages and failures in power supply did not occur.

Today, November 12, a storm warning was announced again: in some districts of Smolensk region heavy snow with the gale force wind up to 15-20 msec is expected. If the emergency situation arises, work on handling the consequences of the storm will continue round the clock.
