OREANDA-NEWS. November 28, 2007. OJSC Territorial Generating Company No. 5 (TGC-5) has joined the Social Charter of the Russian business community, the ies-holding press service reports. Developed by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Social Charter is a strategic initiative addressed to the business community, a code of fundamental principles and values of responsible business practices and social dialogue with shareholders and investors, authorities, employees, and civil society institutions. The accession to the Social Charter confirms TGC-5's intention to continue to implement active policy in the social sphere for the benefit of the four regions where the company has operations, according to TGC-5 General Director Eduard Smelov. "TGC-5 seeks to co-ordinate its business objectives with the interests of its shareholders, consumers, employees, authorities and general public," emphasised Mr Smelov.

Since the beginning of its operations, the company has purposefully implemented socially-oriented policy. TGC-5 pays much attention to environmental protection and charity activities. It is party to a collective agreement which sets forth social programmes and benefits regarding the company's employees, their children and war veterans. In 2007, TGC-5 for the first time produced a social responsibility and corporate stability report for 2005-06 and conducted public hearings to discuss with parties concerned the issues of the business community's social responsibility, wherein it publicly confirmed its intentions to be guided in its operations by principles set forth in the Social Charter of the Russian business community.
