OREANDA-NEWS. November 27, 2007. UAH 10 million allocated by Rinat Akhmetov, the President of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine and FC “Shakhtar” to help the families of miners suffered from the explosion at the Zasyadko Coal Mine on November 18, 2007 will be put on a special account until the final mechanism of payment is developed, reported the press-centre of SCM.

The compensation will be distributed on the principle of social justice. Every single penny will be used for the purposes for which it was intended.  

Anatoliy Zabolotny, Director of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine: “Any insinuations are groundless and aimed at aggravating this dramatic situation. It’s of great importance for us to ensure the money finds its way to the people.

The Coordinating Council of the Foundation held their first meeting in Donetsk; the Coordinating Council includes the Director of the Foundation, miners, representatives of both trade unions, representatives of the Mine’s administration as well as well-known public figures in Donetsk. The first meeting of the Council made the following decisions:

-          total amount of the allocated aid is to be distributed equally between the families of killed miners;
-          decision regarding distribution of aid between the relatives of each family is to be made on an individual basis;
-          the aid is to be given to the immediate relatives of the killed miners.

At present, the administration of the Mine and trade unions are preparing deatiled information on the families of killed miners. On November 30, 2007 the Coordinating Council is to hold its second meeting to develop the schemes of payment according to the list of victims’ families. Upon the request of the Foundation the State Committee dealing with the families of killed miners will inform them that the aid from the Foundation will be provided in full volume.
