OREANDA-NEWS. November 29, 2007. First Deputy Governor of Chukotka Autonomous District Andrey Gorodilov visited Bilibino NPP on Nov 24–26

Gorodilov was accompanied by a group of members of the Government of CAD.

The guests met with the managers of the plant. The sides discussed the problems and prospects of their cooperation.

The key topics were the preparations for the upcoming elections into the State Duma and the ways to ensure the safe and efficient work of Bilibino NPP and stable supply of electricity and heat on the basis of profitable production.

Gorodilov pointed out that mining industry is actively developing in Bilibino district. Today, the three biggest mines of the area, Kupol, Mayskoye and Karelveem, need increasingly more electricity for development. For Bilibino NPP this means more electricity production and consequent reduction of electricity tariff.

According to the trilateral agreement signed by the Government of Chukotka Autonomous District, the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Russian Federation and the Federal Tariff Service of the Russian Federation in June 2007, the key task of the region is gradual reduction of the tariff for the electricity produced by Bilibino NPP. The Government of CAD was instructed to urge Rosenergoatom Concern and Chukotenergo to conclude a contract for supply, reception and payment for electricity and capacity.

The sides also discussed social problems, particularly, the possibility of construction of a sports complex in Bilibino. Gorodilov supported this idea and suggested that Bilibino NPP and Rosenergoatom consider possibilities for implementing the project.

After the meeting the sides visited the construction of the Cathedral of Seraphim of Sarov.

In conclusion the sides pointed out that active cooperation between the Government of Chukotka Autonomous District and Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant will contribute to the growth of mining industry in Bilibino district and the economic and social development of Chukotka Autonomous District, as a whole.
