OREANDA-NEWS. December 3, 2007. Specialists from SibCOTES, which is a member of E4 Group, took part in the III International Conference “Important Problems in Power Industry Today” on November 21-23 in the Ural State Technical University (Yekaterinburg) within the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Thermal Power Plant Department. Specialists of fuel-energy and machine-building complexes, generating companies, research institutes from Russia and neighbouring countries came at a round table meeting.

Dr. Feliks Serant, Deputy General Director, SibCOTES, presented the paper titled “Development of the Circular Furnace Boilers for advanced 330-660 MW power units”. The circular furnace boiler was developed by SibCOTES’ specialists and has been in operation for 10 years at Novo-Irkutskaya CHP Plant (Irkutsk). In 2001, the Council for Science and Engineering of RAO UES of Russia recommended it for a commercial application at power plants throughout Russia. At present, a number of countries, namely South Africa and China showed their interest in the circular furnace boiler technology, since new power generating capacities are under construction there.

Mr. Andrey Yaroschuk, an Engineer from the Automated Control Systems and Metrology Department, presented the work titled “Development and commissioning of a control system for a 350 MW power unit”. This project was realized by the Company’s specialists at Kostolac-B TPP in Serbia. The results of the work showed that the suggested system ensured the compliance with the engineering requirements to the flexibility of the power unit load.

According to Dr. Feliks Serant, the presentations were of great interest for the audience, since they showed the case studies and developments used for practical application on power facilities of the country and the innovations, which have been showing positive results over many years – both in equipment operating efficiency and in environmental performance.
In addition to this, the Company is well-known in the region through the real projects implemented. Since 2005 the Ural Office of the Company has been set up in Chelyabinsk. In 2006-2007, SibCOTES’ specialists were developing investment substantiations for the construction of a 660 MW power unit and the Terms of Reference to choose the EPC Contractor for construction of a 330 MW power unit at Serovskaya Power Plant (GRES). Today SibCOTES takes part in the tender for the development of the Terms of Reference for the reconstruction and enlargement of Uzhno-Uralskaya Power Plant (GRES) applying combined cycle technologies. The Company’s specialists are ready to realize new projects, which are planned in the Ural region in the nearest future within the investment programs of OGK[1] and TGK[2].
