OREANDA-NEWS. December 7, 2007. On this occasion the management of the plant organized an official ceremony and signed a certificate confirming the issue of the 100,000th fuel assembly.

Elemash started producing fuel for RBML reactors over 35 years ago. The first assemblies were made for Leningrad NPP. Later, the plant started manufacturing fuel assemblies for RBMK-1000 reactors of Smolensk and Kursk NPPs (Russia) and RBMK-1500 reactor of Ignalina NPP (Lithuania).

While speaking at the ceremony the head of the NIKIET laboratory Anatoly Kupalov-Yaropolk pointed out that 50% of electricity produced by the Russian NPPs is generated by RBMK reactors. “This huge amount of energy has been produced due to the fuel assemblies manufactured at Elemash,” Kopalov-Yaropolk said.

Today, there are 12 RBMK reactors in the world – 11 in Russia and 1 in Lithuania. All of them use fuel assemblies produced by Elemash.
