OREANDA-NEWS. December 11, 2007. Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved the project for construction of a transshipment complex at the berth N0 9 of commercial seaport Yuzhny (Odessa region). The construction is to cost UAH 318.2 million (over $63 million) including UAH 192.71 million to be spent for construction and assembly works, UAH 62.06 million – for equipment. The project has been developed by Ukrainian state enterprise ChernomorNIIproekt (Odessa).

The design capacity of the complex is 1.2 million tonnes per year. The complex is to be built within two years for own resources of Commercial Seaport Yuzhny.
Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. The port’s approach channel is 2 miles long and 14.5 meters deep. The port is capable of handling up to 15 million tonnes of cargo per year. Major directions of transportation are the basins of the Black and Mediterranean Seas, Latin America, USA, Middle East, South-East Asia. The majority of transit cargo (90%) comes from Russia, Moldavia, Kazakhstan and Byelorussia.
