OREANDA-NEWS. December 12, 2007. The government of Azerbaijan Republic shows special attention to the health care system of Azerbaijan. The Central Hospital of Oilmen turned into one of the leading modern health system in the whole region. The departments of the hospital were supplied with modern equipments which facilitate bringing the service to the universal standards. Today, first time in Azerbaijan, revascularization operation was performed with Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization apparatus in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. It should be noted that this type of operations are performed only in several specialized centers of Europe and the U.S. Generally, patients with absence of distal vascular bed (impossibility of aortocoronary bypass), who are considered inoperable but have strong pains, undergo this type of operation. The patients who have distal vascular bed in one side of the heart but do not have it in other side of the heart may undergo an operation of coronary artery bypass graft at the same time with laser revascularization.

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of the Central Hospital of Oilmen was established on occasion of great leader Heydar Aliyev’s birthday, on May 10, 2005. More than 1000 operations have been performed in the department since then. Generally open heart surgeries, including coronary artery bypass graft, aortic valve replacement and repair, aortic operations, operations for inborn heart diseases and vessel operations are performed in the department. In addition, the department assists diagnostic centers recently established in the regions of the country. The operations performed in Nakhchivan and Lankaran could be example. Today’s operation performed under the guidance of well-known heart surgeon Rashad Mahmudov was also successful.
