OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2007. In the period of the New Year holiday season, from December 28 to January 13, passenger throughput of Moscow Domodedovo International Airport is expected to total approximately 840,000 passengers (537,000 on international flights and 303,000 – on domestic flights), up 24% from the same period last year. Approximately 280,000 people from the total amount of passengers are tourists, which represents an increase of almost a third over the previous year.

The number of flights to destinations in Russia will amount to 3,790 (an increase of 20% from the same period last year). The number of scheduled international flights is expected to total 2,850 (an increase of 33%) and the number of charter flights will rise to 1,660 (an increase of 10%). These figures show the success of the current Domodedovo Airport’s policy to increase the share of scheduled flights.

Thanks to two parallel runway strips, the continuous expansion of areas of the terminal building and the introduction of state-of-the-art service technologies, the current throughput of Moscow Domodedovo International Airport allows to service the planned volume of air traffic.

During 2007, the area of the passenger terminal was significantly expanded. Here passengers can chose from among over 50 restaurants and cafes or visit a DVD cinema. A room for mothers with children is available free of charge to passengers with children. It is open around the clock.

To increase the throughput of the check-in area a new service was introduced: check-in 24 hours prior to scheduled departure, allowing passengers to avoid lines in the peak hours by doing advanced check-in for their scheduled flights. To accelerate passenger departure formalities the passport control area of Sector А of the international airlines departure zone was expanded in 2007. The introduction of state-of-the-art SafeScout100 screening machines significantly accelerated passenger inspection procedure prior departure.
