OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2007. In 2007, Vostochny port handled 21.685.3 million tonnes of cargo (+5.8%, year-on-year). In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo totaled 3.371.4 million tonnes (+15.1%, year-on-year)including 3.271.7 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+21.4%), 20,800 tonnes of scrap metal (down 3.9.times). Transshipment of machines and equipment fell by 9% to 2,000 tonnes. In the 12-month period, transshipment of timber amounted to 293,300 tonnes (-17.9%), dry bulk– 17.934.4   million tonnes (+4.7%) including 16.957 million tonnes of coal and coke (+4.4%), 977,400 tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+15.4%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 86,200 tonnes (+25.3%, year-on-year).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
